Get The Lint Out Of Your Dryer
It is always good to develop a routinely checkup for your dryer vent. Most people are unaware of dangerous hazards that a dryer vent can cause to your family and your home. There are visible signs unless you opt to ignore them, when your dryer duct needs cleaning….
Generally, the first sign that your dryer vent needs cleaning is when after the cycle has finished, your clothes feel humid and damp, which will require you to let them run another cycle. Most of the time it has nothing to do with needing to purchase a new dryer. Your dryer is telling you that it’s time to clean out the vent ducts. Also, by cleaning them you will be saving on your electric bill, because if you haven’t noticed by now, your bill has increased due to having to run double dryer cycles because your clothes are not drying properly.
Here are some safety tips
- Clean out the lint screen before and after drying a load of clothes. If you notice your clothes feeling damp at the end of the drying cycle, this is a clear sign that the screen or exhaust duct is blocking the airflow. Also, check the lint screen for rips, if you do find any replace them right away.
- Substitute plastic or foil ducting material with a folded semi-rigid metal duct. Practically most makers establish the use of a rigid or folded semi-rigid metal duct which supports the highest of airflow. The flexibility of the foil duct tape can effortlessly trap lint and is more exposed to kinks and crumbling which can decrease the airflow. White vinyl hose should never be used in dryer vents.
- Detach, clean and check the dryer duct and venting every few years or hire a professional to clean the dryer vent fixings. There are certain vents that may need frequent inspection in homes with multiple construction where the dryer vents are longer than 6 feet from the exterior or with a smaller stack and lack moisture sensors or high temperature safety limit controls. This will help reduce fire hazards and increase your dryer’s efficiency.
- Keep the area around your dryer vent clean and free from debris and clean behind the dryer where lint tends to build up.
- If
you have gas powered dryers it is recommended to have them inspected at least
once a year for gas leakage.
